Trucking After a Tia Stroke

by steve
(gatesville tx)

Had a stroke,or tia, 2 years ago and lost my driving job.

Now, I'm trying to get back on the road.

Any ideas about how to get back on the road or is driving no longer an option?

TIA Stroke Info From DOT
by: Jack

Steve,

There may be some hope for you based on the information below and your actual physical condition as of today. It may take involving your personal physician in the re-cert process to get re-certified then more frequent examinations to remain certified for a CDL license.

Good Luck in your efforts!

Jack

The first link http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/neuro.pdf takes you to this statement where this recommendation was made to DOT:

Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs) are associated with a high rate of recurrence during the first year. Therefore, this automatically precludes commercial driving for one year.
After one year, certification would depend upon the interval history, general health,
neurological examination, and compliance with the treatment program.

Other DOT links below will give you information to help with your chances. You may find exactly what is needed to use as ammunition with your personal doctor and DOT medical examiner.
